What is Trespa?

Trespa is a flat one-piece panel based on thermosetting resins, homogeneously reinforced with cellulose fibres and manufactured under high pressure and temperature. Using special techniques, the panels have an integrated, decorative surface with melamine-impregnated paper. It is ideal for laboratory environments as it resists aggressive chemicals for up to 6 hours before it needs to be cleaned off, enough time to cover the majority of spillage cases. The easy-to-clean nature combined with good chemical resistance makes Trespa ideal for use in various laboratory, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, electronic and food production environments. It's an ideal alternate for phenolic solid grade laminate and ideal for chemical resistant worktops.

There are two types of Trespa Worktop:

Both lab countertops are available in 16mm or 20mm panel thickness. However 16mm Trespa BASE is used in over 80% of Lab's in the UK therefore we always use this as our for first choice for Lab Worktops. It provide the best value for money but we can provide any of the other options if required. For more information please see below.

Here are a few guides we have put together if you require more information on the material:

Trespa TopLab BASE (Athlon)

Chemical resistance
Trespa Base (Athlon) has good resistance to organic solvents such as acetone, toluene, xylene and similar substances. The panel is also resistant to disinfectants and detergents, food juices and dyes. These affect neither the properties nor the appearance of the panel.

Moisture resistance
Trespa Base (Athlon) is not affected by moisture, mold and rot do not occur. Both the surface and the core are made of thermosetting resins, which make them impervious to moisture.

Wear and Tear
The special surface structure and durability of Trespa Base (Athlon) make it highly scratch-resistant. The panel retains its excellent properties for a very long time, even after intensive use. Tests by EN 438-2/91 prove that Trespa Base (Athlon) is highly resistant to wear. It is ideal for heavy-duty applications.

Easy to clean
The closed non-porous surface of Trespa Base (Athlon) does not attract dirt. Trespa Base (Athlon) panels can be cleaned with either normal cleaning agents or with strong disinfectants because the material is chemically resistant. Graffiti can easily be removed with an organic solvent without the danger of affecting the colour.

Trespa TopLab PLUS

Trespa TopLab PLUS is much like BASE however is specified where you need greater resistance to aggressive chemicals, more like 24 hours than the 6 hours BASE affords.
